Match recap

The Dodgers edged the Giants 2-1 behind a dominant start from Emmet Sheehan and a solo homer from Tommy Edman. San Francisco's Matt Wilkinson matched zeros for five innings, but a pair of LAD runs in the sixth against the bullpen were enough to hold off a lifeless Giants lineup that managed just two hits.

Matt Wilkinson was sharp, scattering three hits over five scoreless frames with six strikeouts, but the Giants' offense never got going, finishing with a .074 average and only two hits — one of which came from Jung Hoo Lee. Emmet Sheehan was even better, punching out nine over 5.1 shutout innings, allowing just one hit. The game turned in the sixth when Tommy Edman led off with a solo homer off Carson Seymour, and later in the same inning Enrique Hernández singled home an insurance run. The Giants scraped across their only run in the seventh on a Victor Bericoto groundout, but Jack Dreyer and the LA pen shut the door from there.

Key factors

  • Sheehan's dominance: 9 K, 1 H over 5.1 IP, completely silencing a Giants lineup that struck out 13 times collectively
  • Tommy Edman's solo homer broke a scoreless tie in the sixth — the only power hit of the game, giving LAD the lead they never relinquished

The Analyst's verdict

Sheehan's emergence as a swing-and-miss weapon gives LA a powerful option behind their established aces. For the Giants, the offensive futility is a red flag — striking out 13 times while generating only two hits is not sustainable, and the lineup needs to find answers against quality arms.
